The move by the Beidaihe authorities comes only weeks after Tesla cars were banned from driving on some roads in Chengdu, China’s capital, during a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
A local traffic police official said on Monday that Tesla cars will be forbidden from accessing the Chinese seaside area of Beidaihe, which hosts a clandestine annual summer leadership conclave, for at least two months beginning July 1.
The official stated that an announcement would be made soon. The official from the Beidaihe Traffic Police Brigade, who did not want to be identified, gave no justification for the transfer but stated that it was related to “national affairs.”
The Chengdu limits on Tesla cars surfaced after videos of Tesla cars being steered away from specified places by the police were posted on social media.
