The left-leaning organization that advocates Battle for the Future observed as internet corporations blanketed the airwaves with Advertisements pleading with people to contact their senators and ask them to oppose significant antitrust legislation that was making its way through Congress. The advocacy group chose to focus on Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer in an effort to make the most of its much smaller budget for counter messaging.
Through the weekend, the organization transported billboard trucks with 12-foot-wide displays into Schumer’s residences in New York and Washington, broadcasting a John Oliver comedy video pleading with Lawmakers to approve the law.
According to Evan Greer, director of Fight for the Future, the choice to pursue Schumer was an easy one: “He is the key. This was a clever technique to confront him with the situation.
Schumer will decide if the measure will be brought up for a vote on the Senate floor, which will be watched by both supporters and opponents of the historic legislation, two proposals that aim to regulate the business practices of the nation’s major tech giants.
