The well-known singer Mariah Carey is in mourning following the terrible deaths of her sister Alison Carey and mother Patricia Carey over the weekend on the same day.
The Grammy-winning musician revealed the devastating news in a statement that was made public on Monday.
Carey remarked, “I lost my mother this past weekend, and it broke my heart.” “Unfortunately, my sister passed away on the same day due to a tragic turn of events.”
She said she felt lucky to have seen her mother shortly before she died away and asked to be left alone during this trying period.
There are currently no known information regarding the causes of death for either woman.
Patricia Carey, an Irish-American voice instructor and opera singer, passed away at the age of 87.
The singer discussed her difficult connection with her mother in her 2020 biography, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” calling it a cause of “so much pain and confusion.”
“Professional jealousy comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful,” Carey said, reflecting on the difficulties brought about by their professional rivalry.
Carey dedicated the biography to her mother, Pat, saying, “To Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could,” despite their tense relationship. I shall always love you to the best of my ability.
Carey acknowledged that the criticism she received from her mother when she was growing up had “definitely” affected her in an interview with Gayle King from 2022. She did, however, give Patricia credit for fostering her love of music.
Prior to her passing, Carey’s sister Alison, 63, was getting hospice care, a friend told the New York State newspaper “Times Union.”
The acquaintance did not give a precise reason for the passing.
Complexities also characterized Mariah and Alison’s relationship. Carey disclosed in her autobiography that she had distanced herself from both Alison and her brother Morgan in order to protect her mental and physical health.
Alison’s lawsuit against Carey for $1.2 million, in which she claimed that the memoir’s “vindictive” content had caused her “immense emotional distress,” served as more evidence of their estrangement.
Over the years, the Carey family has had its fair share of loss. At the age of 72, Mariah’s father Alfred passed away from cancer in 2002.
Mariah Carey, who is still very much a part of music history, is recognized as one of the most successful singers in the world.
The best-selling Christmas song by a female artist is still “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” her festive hit. She has over 220 million records sold worldwide, a record 19 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist, and she even judged the popular competition show ‘American Idol’.
